Names and Etymology

In Hewbrew culture the meaning of a name is very important. Major life changes often involve a changing of ones name as well. In the bible we see references to people such as Abram ( high father ), who after meeting God becomes Abraham ( father of a great multitude ), and his wife Sarai ( my princess ), who becomes Sarah ( mother of the multitude ). Sometimes a name change can be much bigger, such as Jacob ( supplanter ) whom God named Israel ( he strives with God ).

Wikipedia has a very expansive list of biblical names along with their meanings. It’s a great place to start when you need a meaningful name.
